This sermon from Mark 10:1–12 addresses Jesus’ clear and countercultural teaching on marriage and divorce as He responds to a trap set by the Pharisees. Rather than debating loopholes or permissions, Jesus takes His hearers back to God’s original design in creation, revealing marriage as a lifelong, one-flesh union established by God Himself—not a merely legal or cultural arrangement. By showing that Moses’ allowance for divorce was a concession to hard hearts rather than an endorsement of God’s ideal, Jesus exposes how seriously God takes the marriage covenant and why its purpose is ultimately the display of Christ’s faithful love for His church. This passage calls us to submit our views of marriage to Scripture, to honor God’s design with humility and repentance, and to live in light of the gospel’s grace—whether married, divorced, or single.
