Treasuring God Together
Jesus often spoke to the crowds in parables (commonly described as earthly stories with a heavenly meaning). On at least one occasion, Jesus used a parable to compare the kingdom of God to a “treasure hidden in a field” (Matt. 13:44). What happened to this treasure? First, a man found it. Then, overcome with joy, he sold all his possessions to purchase the field. Why? Because he knew that the treasure in this field was worth more than anything else in his life! This parable is meant to teach us about the infinite worth of God’s kingdom (His rule and reign over our lives). This kingdom is where we find salvation from sin, access to the Father, joy in hardship, hope in death, and our true identity. Indeed, God is the greatest reality in the universe, and we exist to treasure Him together (Isa 43:7).
