The Shepherd's Helper
In the breathtaking story of creation, the very last thing we hear God say is that “it is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him” (Gen 2:18). What do we know about this helper? We know that she is created by God uniquely for him (2:21–24). The man and his wife were a team created by God to accomplish the task that God had given specifically to the man (2:15–17). The same is true for the wife of a pastor/elder. She is God’s glorious gift to the man who is called to shepherd the local church
(1 Cor 11:7; 1 Tim 3:2). Therefore, just as the shepherd’s calling is uniquely weighty (Acts 20:28; James 3:1), her calling is also uniquely weighty.
So during “Pastors Appreciation Month” may we honor & celebrate the God-ordained helper of our shepherd.
