Lent is the 40-day season of repentance leading up to Resurrection Sunday. Just as Israel spent 40 years in the wilderness waiting for the promise land, Lent is a season of intentional preparation for celebrating the resurrection of Christ. It is a season of confession, fasting, and reflections.

You'll notice the purple cloth on the cross in honor of this season. In Christian tradition purple is associated with sorrow for sin and spiritual reflection, and so churches incorporate purple into their liturgy to
signal this solemn season.
